Plank Fenders (a.k.a. wooden mudguards)

Lovely little numbers from the Pittsburgh based Clank Works. They're awfully sustainable and stuff being made from bamboo fiber and waterproffed with a vegetable based penetrating oil!!

Bike Maintenance Workshop for the Homeless

Every Wednesday Squeaky Chains offers free bike maintenance workshops to homeless members of the community. We've been delivering this service for just under a year now and two of our graduates have gone on to study for the internationally recognised City & Guilds bicycle mechanics course - something we're all very proud of.
If you’re interested in taking part in the workshops or know anyone that might be interested, get in contact with us now.

The Catford Cycling Club Hill Climb Classic

So we posted an ad for the The Catford Cycling Club Hill Climb Classic - the oldest continuing cycle race in the world - the other week and it took place last Sunday. We didn't ride it unfortunately, or make it along but we have made the effort to post this little video of it, which has a slightly creepy soundtrack of someone breathing rather heavily. Anywho, enjoy the film and get on down next year.

Cycle Show niceties

We popped down to Earls Court last week for the Cycle Show and snapped some pretty snazzy bicycles.
Unfortunately the camera battery ran out within about three minutes of being there so had to resort to the camera phone so apologies for the crappy picture quality on some of them.
Also saw the great Mario Cipollini who is surprisingly massive (6ft 2"). If you look carefully you can see his left leg (maybe) in the third photo down. Pretty exclusive stuff.

Commonwealth Games Cycling

The men’s keirin final was an absolute cracker and full of controversy as Malaysia's Azizulhasni Awang was penalised for a nudge in the final sprint and stripped of his Gold medal. Not the end of the world for Malaysia however as Awang's teammate, Josiah Ng, was promoted to first and thus secured Malaysia's first Commonwealth Games cycling Gold.
Check it out here.

Save the Herne Hill Velodrome

Britain’s oldest cycle track and venue for the 1948 Olympic Cycling Championships is facing the threat of closure due to a lack of funding. If you don’t want this to happen, which you shouldn’t, show your support and get on down to the Great Hall at Dulwich College tomorrow, Wednesday 6th October, from 7-30pm to 9-30pm for a public meeting.
